Homemade Apple Sauce

This "Wicked Easy" homemade apple sauce recipe is not only delicious and easy to make, but also very versatile allowing you to customize as you see fit!

The ingredients needed to make homemade apple sauce are simple and natural, no preservative or chemicals that are often found in the store-bought, commercially processed varieties!

The first step in the homemade apple sauce recipe is to peel. core, and cut the apples into approximately 1″ pieces.

Place the cut apple pieces into a saucepan and add the water, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.

Bring all of the homemade apple sauce ingredients to a boil over high heat. Then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer until the apples are soft and tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Allow apples to cool and then mash with a potato masher or fork until it is the consistency you desire. You can also puree in a blender or food processor for an even smoother consistency.

Apple sauce can be served warm or cold. Be sure to refrigerate or freeze for later use. Apple sauce will stay good refrigerated in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Homemade apple sauce goes great as part of a lunch or dinner plate. I often serve it with pork (click for a grilled pork tenderloin recipe). Here it is shown also served with coleslaw and crispy hash brown potatoes (click to go to their recipes).
