Due to Covid-19 Regulations, the Taste of Cayman, which was scheduled to take place on January 29th, 2022, has been postponed. The last time the festival was held was back in 2019, which I attended with my son Charlie. In this blog post, I will share some of the highlights from that trip!

The Taste of Cayman Food & Drink Festival has been going on now for 32 years! I attended the 2019 Taste of Cayman which offers something for everyone. From delicious ice-creams to grown-up cocktails, from street food to gourmet masterpieces, I found there to be something for everyone’s taste!

Cayman airways departure board

We flew Cayman Airways out of Miami International Airport and the flight took about an hour and half.

I took my son Charlie with me to the festival. He is a big foodie and is always up for an adventure!

When we landed on Grand Cayman, we took a hotel shuttle bus to our destination, the Margaritaville Grand Cayman Beach Resort

The resort is a 285-room beachfront property that is set on the picturesque Seven Mile Beach. We chose this location because it is in the heart of Grand Cayman and minutes from the island’s top attractions, such as snorkeling, diving, shopping, golf and the festival.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Hotel lobby

The property, inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of Jimmy Buffett, reflects the warm, authentic Caymanian hospitality consistent with the island’s well-deserved reputation as the “World’s Friendliest Country.”  The resort’s “casual-luxe” design makes it a perfect destination for anyone looking to escape, relax and have fun.

The open-air lobby with its soothing beach color scheme, comfortable lounge seating, and the License to Chill” bar immediately puts you in the vacation state of mind.

This is the giant Flip-Flop that is out in front of the hotel and one of the first things you see when you drive up!

After exploring the resort and having a quick bite to eat, Charlie and I grabbed our tickets and headed off to the Taste of Cayman Festival which is held at the Festival Green in Camana Bay

Immediately after entering through the festival’s entrance, we were blown away by the variety of offerings available.

There were food and drink booths lined up all around the perimeter of the festival, showcasing Cayman’s restaurant scene and diverse cuisines. There we also adult beverage stations throughout!

Since I had purchased premium tickets, we had access to the VIP area which consisted of air-conditioned tents with their own entertainment and food & beverage selections.

Cayman police officers

The festival was real family event with activities available for everyone. The staff and vendors were very friendly and professional, with police and rescue personnel in attendance as well.

There were also competitions and activities planned throughout the evening such as a children’s cooking classes and best bartender challenges!

Taste of Cayman demos

The experience rooms were another highlight of the festival where attendees can attend specific demonstrations and tastings. Charlie and I attended one on two invasive species that the island is trying to eradicate. By showing how to cook Iguana and Lionfish, the objective was to maybe turn them from a nuisance to a food source. We walked away thinking they both were very delicious!

Taste of Cayman bands

Once the sun went down, the main stage heated up with musical acts of all types. There was also a huge fireworks display just above the main stage that was truly spectacular!

After hours of food, beverage and entertainment, Charlie and I decided to call it a night. The festival would still be going on for many more hours, but we had had our fill.

Charlie and I loved the Taste of Cayman Festival and agreed we would love to come back and attend the event again!

We also loved the island itself, including all the fabulous restaurants and shops!
